7 26 2012 Supplemental Still Standing

Howdy all! My Spirits and Energy levels are good.

Wow, has a month gone by already? Where have I been? Where indeed!!! I can tell you this: I have been really busy yall! I have been working my fanny off this past month on something ......... well on something......... that I rather not talk about. Nothing to do with diet or such. Just something private. You know like most of you are with me, that is except a few and those few know what I have been up to. Hey you gotta give and take if you want to know the "Nitty Gritty". HA!

I have been doing fine for those who want to know. I hope all of you are doing well. I have kept in contact with a few through email. I will have time after this weekend to start posting more regularly. What will Dave post? Hmm..... I am working on it. I just dont know right now. I have a lot to work on in my life and I will post what I can. I am ever so much in search of things to make my life a more healthy one. There is a lot more that I can do and some things I know that I should be doing and have not. Jeez!!!

So if you have time shout out a comment and let me know how you have been doing or just email me. Those of you that are trying to lose weight, well I hope all fares well with you. Those of you thinking about it, well dont wait any longer just "Go For It!!!" If I can help I will try. I am no expert, but have been known to lose a pound or two HA!!!!

Look it: I need to sum things up and come up with a master plan. Something different, something the same. Did that make sense? In my little mind it makes perfect sense. Yes indeed!!! I need to formulate all the experiences I have had these last two years or so and the wonderful advice given by folks here and through email and see what I can dream up.

Have a Healthy Day my Friends and Family. Stay in the Fight and Do whats Right, and Always Battle On!!!

The Boys are Back in Town

2014 The 5 Bite Diet Day 7

Today starts day 7 and I am exited that I have been able to control my eating for this long of a period without cheating. I did expect a bigger weight loss at this point. I wont focus my energy on that subject. I just want to celebrate the time that I have been on the diet and that I am more than willing to carry on with it. Tomorrow I only have enough meatballs for lunch and then I will eat a small ground beef patty for lunch or maybe some crumbled beef. I am not sure about it right now. So far at work nobody has really noticed anything. I am pretty low keyed and usually eat at my desk. I am sure lots of people can relate to that. One not so important note on my morning coffee fast is that I came across an old brand of coffee that I never tried before called Chock full oNuts. It was $3 off so I tried it. It was really pretty good. It is a little strong, but good.

The Magic Of 7 And 3

Happy Friday friends!

We finally made it through the work-out week. I will admit that knowing that I was completing my fifth work-out this week did put a little extra spring in my step on the run home tonight.

How are you all doing? I need to visit you all and catch up.

I thought of this title on tonights run to the gym, which by the way I do with our 15-year-old Darling Rose. SunshineMeg asked who watches the kids when I go to the gym. Lately, the way weve been doing it, is...as soon as Daddy Rainmaker gets home from work, Darling Rose and I take off to the gym while he has supper with the... count em five other kids. (and, yes, I have actually been cooking them some meals this week. Tonight it was chicken noodle soup using home made, whole wheat egg noodles. They said it tasted very good.)

Meanwhile, Daddy Rainmaker works out twice a day, once in the morning before breakfast. Thats when he weight lifts. He just started the weight lifting this week. Darling Rose has also been working out with him then too. So, she has been getting in double work-outs. Then, Daddy Rainmaker does some cardio, usually bike during the lunch hour.

Get this...his work actually pays him up to three hours a week to work out at their gym. So, he spreads that time over four days of lunch.

Wow. Come to think of it, I might be the one slacking here if my husband and child are working out more than I am. Ha!

But, anyway...I wanted to share with you the few thoughts I had on the magic of the numbers 7 and 3.

After 3 days of eating clean, I start to feel better. My face begins to look younger. I cant explain it other than there seems to be a glow.

After 3 weeks, which is 7 x 3, twenty-one days, you feel even better.

You have more energy because you are eating foods that actually fuel your body instead of foods that make you weak. When white flour and sugar combine they make you weaker, and make you retain fat.

Also, they say that it takes 21 days to form a habit. So, after three weeks of me being on this diet, it should become more natural for me. And, I will want to be on the diet because I feel better and look better.

The same applies to my plan to work-out five days a week. After another two weeks of this, going to the gym wont require a big mental battle. It will feel like just a natural part of my day.

And that is exactly the place you all want to be with working out. You want it to be habitual and routine like the way you treat brushing your teeth before bed.

I mean, who actually has an internal argument about brushing their teeth, "Well, I dont really feel like brushing tonight. I mean I ate that celery stick and getting it out of my teeth will be too hard."

"Ah, Cmon. If you dont brush your teeth...you could build up plaque and then you could get gingivitis. And then have to go the dentist to have him pull your bad tooth."

"Ok...fine. Ill brush my teeth."

Granted teeth brushing takes two minutes while the gym is more of a commitment, but believe me, its easier to keep that commitment when it becomes part of your routine.

Oh, and the last magical thing about 7 and 3?

Theyre both favorite numbers of mine. 7 first 3 second.

Thats why Daddy Rainmaker and I got married on October 7. Its his favorite too.

Oh, hey, wouldnt you know it, its January 7th today. That means weve been married 111 months.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Tonight I ran 2 1/2 miles, did my abs, did a 55 minute arm work-out that worked my back, triceps, chest and biceps. So far Ive consumed 1,565 calories. I lost 2/10 a pound this morning. I havent been keeping track of my water levels. I should do that.

Here is what I ate today:
7:15 a.m. 1/2 cup of oatmeal-150, 2 large eggs-140, 1/2 grapefruit-40 =330
10:15 a.m. chocolate protein powder-110, 3 oz banana-75, 1 tbl of peanut butter-100=285/615
1:30 p.m. (late lunch dont usually do it this late) 4 to 5 oz chicken breast-115, 1/2 cup of brown rice-105, with 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil-40, spinach salad with cucumbers, radishes, broccoli, tomato, and green pepper-55 (estimate) and 2 teaspoons of Newmans Own oil and vinegar-50, and 2 teaspoons of ground flax seed-20=385/1,000
4:30 p.m. 1/2 cup of brown rice-105, 2 1/2 oz of chicken-65=170/1,170
6:15 p.m (during work-out) 4 oz banana=75/1,245
7:45 p.m (post work-out) protein powder-110, 4 oz banana-100=210/1,455
9:30 p.m 1 teaspoon of honey in tea-25, 4 oz banana-100/1,565

Well, as Bugs Bunny once said, "Thats All Folks!!! he, he he (wasnt there a laugh?)"

Have a good weekend!

Sincerely,
Sunshine Mama

Kimchi Tofu Soup 김치순두부찌개 7 Conditions

I dont know when I became a bad sleeper, but Im notoriously horrible at the mandatory nighttime rest. Actually, let me rephrase that. I can actually be a GREAT sleeper, but I have seven conditions that must be ideal in order for my sleep to be really good.

1.  The kitchen has to be completely cleaned and ready for the next day.
2.  Kids have to be in bed.
3.  The room has to be completely dark.
4.  The room has to be completely silent.
5.  I have to read something (ANYTHING) for 10 minutes to set my mind at rest.
6.  I have to have showered no more than 3 hours before bedtime, and I have to put on fresh "inside bed" clothes and put in the laundry basket, my "outside world" clothes.
7.  The only thing touching me can be the sheets, the pillow, and the mattress.  No human contact.

Now, every once in a while, my seven conditions are met, but usually, one or two out of the seven arent met.  Im a mother to three kids, a wife to Husband who likes to work late in bed (laptop screen glare and noise in particular are really difficult for me to manage), and I technically need to be in a sensory deprivation tank for sleep to be good. I know, its not going to happen.  But on those days, those rare days when all the conditions are met, the sleep is amazing.  Ahhh....

Now for all my difficulties with sleep, Husband has equally as many conditions for his kimchi chigae.

1.  There cant be too much pork or meat flavor.
2.  The broth needs to be lighter and less rich.
3.  The broth to kimchi ratio leans heavily towards the broth side.
4.  The broth cant be sweet.
5.  The broth cant be too salty.
6.  The tofu cant overtake the kimchi.
7.  The soup must be served piping hot with rice.

Just as I have continued to nag Husband about helping me reach my seven conditions of sleep, he has nagged me endlessly about the kimchi tofu soup of his personal preference.  After 12 years of arguing with him that he was simply WRONG about his soup (he is, but oh well) I decided to revisit my old method of kimchi soup and lighten it up in his favor.

It turns out his desire just makes a different soup - not a better one, but a different one.  And as an added benefit, it turns out that Son actually likes this version as well and the Father-Son combo enjoy this soup regularly.  Its slightly more complicated than a regular kimchi stew, but youll get more bang for your kimchi (meaning more soup for the same amount of kimchi) so in the end its a good investmentt.  My favorite finish on this soup is an egg (or two woo hoo!) cooked in the final stages of the soup so I get a runny yolk messing with the rest of the spicy broth.  In order to accomodate Sons egg allergy, I take a portion of the soup and add it to a small pot so that I can cook my egg.

Kimchi Tofu Soup (???????)
Serves 6 to 8 people

Ingredients
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
¼ lb Korean pork belly or other pork or beef cut of your choice
5 cups drained kimchi (place in a strainer over a bowl), roughly chopped - reserve 1 cup of kimchi liquid
2 tablespoons gochujang(??? - Korean hot pepper paste)
2 tablespoons soup soy sauce (???) or reduced-sodium soy sauce
8 cups water
6 or more eggs (depending on your egg love)
1 package tofu (medium firm) cut into 1 inch chunks
2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
8 scallions, cut into 1 inch pieces

Method
In a large pot, over medium heat add oil and pork belly.  Cook until pork belly has rendered some of the fat and is getting golden brown.  Add drained kimchi and gochujang and soy sauce.  Cook until gochujang and soy sauce is all incorporated and the mix is started to darken, about 5 minutes.

Add to pot 1 cup of reserved kimchi liquid and 8 cups of water to pot.  Bring to boil and cover; reduce heat to maintain simmer for about 25 minutes or until kimchi is translucent.

Add tofu and cook for another 5 minutes.  If desired crack eggs soup or put some soup in a smaller pot to add eggs.  Cook an additional 2 minutes.  Garnish with scallions and sesame seeds

Serve hot with rice.

Now, off to bed.

5 21 2012 The 5 Bite Diet Day 7

Greetings all. My Spirits and Energy levels are humming along.

I am getting into the grove y’all. I feel confident in the way I eat. No complaints here. I have conditioned myself to accept that this extreme restricted eating is for a short period of time. I will benefit from the weight loss and at the end of the day that is why I am here. An added benefit is the feeling of peace I get as I continue to lose the weight. I am not distracted by things that folks at a “right size” don’t go through. For instance: clothing, clothing, and clothing. I now have bags of clothing that I can’t wear and I want to add to them. HA! They range in sizes 3x – large shirts and 50 -36 in pants. Can you believe it? Yikes!!!

Zero carb took me to a certain level and I am counting on alternative means to get me even further. Could I do this via strictly Zero Carb foods? Absolutely. Will I? I don’t know at this time. Have I said this before? I am sure I have. HA! Actually I like the mix of food that I am eating at this time. I have had some minor challenges, but that’s OK. I will just move on.

“Take Me High, Take Me Low, Take Me Where I want to Go. You cant take my Joy from me since I found Serenity. “

Results thus far:

(Please let me know if I mess up on my math below, I might add or subtract incorrectly)

Day 1 = (0.0) = 00.0 lbs loss current weight: 190.0 lbs (just starting)
Day 2 = (2.0) = 02.0 lbs loss current weight: 188.0 lbs (nice)
Day 3 = (1.6) = 03.6 lbs loss current weight: 186.4 lbs (this is how we do it)
Day 4 = (1.8) = 05.4 lbs loss current weight: 184.6 lbs (lovely)
Day 5 = (1.2) = 06.6 lbs loss current weight: 183.4 lbs (interesting)
Day 6 = (1.8) = 08.4 lbs loss current weight: 181.6 lbs (oh, yeah)
Day 7 = (1.2) = 09.6 lbs loss current weight: 180.4 lbs (keep it coming)

OK not too bad, not too good. Can I give it back? Not in your life!!! All in all things are smooth. I am very happy and satisfied. I will be more happy and satisfied when I reach my goal. Will I stop there? Will I? I have to see. I have set a goal of 155 lbs at this time. Very low in my little mind, yet far from a BMI of 18.5. So there you are or is it here I am or WHATEVER! HA!

Have a Healthy Day my Friends and Family. Keeping focused and on target.

Todays Menu: Black coffee, H20, Seltzer Water, Pork Tamale and Smoked Chicken with my famous Jalapeno/Mayo sauce for dipping.

7 31 2012 Supplemental Who Knows

Greetings all. My Spirits and Energy levels are good.

Blink, blink, blink.........goes the cursor as I stare at it. What to write? What indeed! Blink, blink, blink in total silence. So there you go.

What was that all about? Heck I dont know or do I? Deep thoughts I guess. I have come so far in such a short time. A total of two years. A lot to some, not much to others. Two years you say?

Well two years that I started to journal. First on a forum and then on my first blog and now here on my second blog. what next?

Who knows?

OK, I am not being cryptic this time........ I think. No I am just in deep thought. For now I have a very full plate and I am not talking about food. Well maybe it does have to do with food in the sense of diet.

There so many things that I have planned to do, yet have not. Good intentions dont add up to much. Action is the key. Motivation is the start.... I guess.

My motivation varies. Sometimes I can be unstoppable at other times.... lets just say tomorrow never comes. What was that famous poster on the X files? I think it was a picture of a UFO with the caption at the bottom that read "I want to believe." That little quote describes some unfinished business that I have concerning my overall health.

I wan to believe that I can do more. More you ask? Yes more my Friends and Family. What more could ya want Dave? What more indeed!

Lookit: Realistically "I want to believe" that I can get my rear end to a committed exercise routine that involves low impact Cardio, Weight Resistance, Stretching and some type of Martial Arts or even something like Tae Bo. OK dont laugh too loud. I can hear you all the way from Texas!

Yes, I have talked about it in the past. Heck I even have a good amount of equipment. What I dont have is: come on now all together:

MOTIVATION!!!

Anyone knows where I can find some? Or can you spare some? Can ya? Please. So why do you want to get involved in all that jazz anyway you may ask. I just know that some good old exercise will make me strong as I get old. I am not as strong as I once was and that is not fun. No it is not. There is no reason to let your strength diminish as you get old. We are designed to keep fit for life if we are so inclined. I am not talking fanatic type training. I am no super athlete and never will be.

I am just talking about some light strength training, moderate cardio, and stretching. So why the big fuss? WHO KNOWS???

Have a Healthy Day my Friends and Family. I am in it for the Long Haul, how about you? Live Long, Be Strong and Always Battle On!!!

I WANT TO BELIEVE

Cheers,

Dave
